IP cameras and LTE routers were adopted to upgrade road management operations in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Jitsuta Chugoku Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, Representative Director: Yasuyuki Jitsuta) has been entrusted with upgrading the management of roads in the Hiroshima prefecture using cameras together with CHUDENKO CORPORATION (Head office: Naka-ku, Hiroshima City) President: Akira Sakotani) and HYTEC INTER Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President: Norihito ASAO).
Purpose
During 2021 it is required to build and implement a road monitoring information collection platform interoperable with Hiroshima Road Navi using cameras that automatically recognize the type of traffic and are able to measure traffic volume.
Task
- To automate traffic volume surveys conducted at target locations, such as intersections.
- To protect the privacy of people in the images captured on camera.
- To utilize video data acquired by the camera in all situations, such as linking with “Hiroshima Road Navi”.
Solution
- Traffic flow survey by AI
Vehicle identification and the number of passing vehicles are automatically measured from the captured video files via AI post- processing.
- Privacy processing of captured video
Face recognition is performed on the image input from the camera, and privacy processing (via mosaic) is performed on areas where a face is detected.
In addition, as a measure to protect personal information for people captured by the camera, we manage the risk of personal information leakage by conducting privacy impact assessments based on the privacy impact assessment guidelines of JIS X 9251.
- Realization of video IoT
Using AI post-processing on captured video from cameras installed at intersections, the cameras also operate as IoT sensors by detecting and measuring the flow of people and traffic. The aggregated results are then collected in the cloud via LTE backhaul. Through this we can implement an advanced system that contributes to city planning and provides enhanced safety, security and disasters response capabilities.
